Had the same breakfast porridge topping for years? Looking for ways to make your morning more ‘fun’? I love having porridge in the morning as it always sets me up for an excellent start. Rolled oats are an excellent source of slow release energy that balance blood sugar and keep you satisfied for longer. Nutritious and easy to prepare, it also has limitless options to make it more delicious.
Say goodbye to boring porridge - try out one of my recent favourite toppings:
Pomegranate, bee pollen and walnuts
I also like to call this amin and antioxidant status in the body and bee pollen aid ‘superfood’ porridge, as it is a nutritional powerhouse in a bowl. Pomegranates are an incredible choice for boosting vitas in strengthening immunity. Add walnuts to nourish your mind- improve memory and focus.
Raspberries and pumpkin seeds
Great choice when things get a bit stressful: raspberries are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C to boost energy and mood, whereas high in magnesium pumpkin seeds aid relaxation and sleep. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean it will leave you sleepy, only that a good breakfast will leave you more capable of dealing with a full-on day.
Cinnamon apple puree and cacao nibs
Cinnamon is one of my favourite spices, as it works magic in aiding blood sugar balance. Add some cacao nibs for an energy boost when you’re struggling to get out of bed and get going.
Tahini and blueberries
Nothing beats juicy blueberries and tahini combination in the morning. Tahini is high in protein and B vitamins, which helps energy balance through the day. This porridge topping is excellent to curb sugar cravings!
Lemon juice, passionfruit and coconut flakes
For a little extra zing in the morning and a delicious fragrant start of the day, top your porridge with tropical fruit.
To mix things up, replace oats for quinoa, buckwheat or millet and if you haven’t tried these before for breakfast- you might be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy!
